Common questions
- What happens if I miss the deadline?
- HMRC charges a £100 penalty as soon as an online return is late, even if you owe no tax, with more penalties and interest the longer it goes on.
- What are payments on account?
- If your tax bill is over £1,000, HMRC usually asks for advance payments towards next year’s bill, due on 31 January and 31 July. We’ll tell you exactly what to pay and when.
